Blessed Girl

By Kenya Jones

I did not always have this life.

I am a blessed girl.

I went through storms.

I shed tears.

I wanted to give up.

Eventually, brighter days came.

I believed in myself.

I showed up for myself.

And now,

I am able to receive MY BLESSINGS.

It looks easy now

because I am standing in the sun,

where everyone can see me shine.

But don’t compare your life to mine.

And don’t attempt to remove my blessings.

You don’t know how big the storm was,

how long it lasted,

how much damage it caused,

or what the repair required.

You don’t know how long I cried,

how often I felt unheard.

You don’t know how many times I wanted to give up

how many times I wanted to turn around

and saw nowhere else to go.

So I stayed.

I survived.

Kenya Jones

And I am so proud to say that

I am a very BLESSED GIRL.
